Ipes Public Office Building – Urban Wood

The project received the first prize in the invitation only competition that shorlisted ten internationals teams, including Massimiliano Fuksas.

The 8500 sq.mtrs office building for IPES is entirely CO2 emission free, as the heating and cooling is provided by geothermal groundwater and solar panels. High performing thermal insulation and the use of heat pumps keep the operating costs low. The project represents the first carbon-neutral wooden multi-storey building in Italy.

Since last march Bolzano city has been implementing the EU project “Sinfonia” intending to become the first European Smart City, a collaborative undertaking between EURAC, Comune di Bolzano, Istituto per l’edilizia sociale (IPES), Agenzia CasaClima and Società elettrica altoatesina (SEL).
